The Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of History will hold a special autumn exhibition, 『Atui: Ainu Culture in Concert with the Sea』. This is the first exhibition in Ishikawa Prefecture to explore the magnificent world of Atui, the sea that surrounds the Ainu people, and the Ainu culture through a wealth of folk artifacts.
Don’t miss the seal fur clothing and the kamui (albatross) that protects humans
The word “Ainu” may remind some people of the manga 『Golden Kamuy』 (author: Satoru Noda), which has been made into an anime.
Although not directly related to 『Golden Kamuy』, this autumn special exhibition, 『Atui: Ainu Culture at Sea』, features clothing made of seal fur and harpoon tipped harpoons used for hunting and fishing. The exhibition will also feature clothing made from seal fur, harpoon points used for hunting and fishing, and small knives that were used to dismantle prey.
It is expected that visitors will be able to see such valuable exhibits as shirakki-kamui (a deity who prays for help), an albatross skull decorated with shavings of inau (wooden staff), and major Ainu garments (made of grass and leather fiber) that were handed down in the home of a boatman in Kuroshima Village, Noto.
Kanazawa and 『Golden Kamuy』 connection
At Museum Meiji-mura (Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture), known as the sacred site for 『Golden Comey』, you can see the Kanazawa Prison cell that appears in the film.
Originally built in 1907 in Odatsuno, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, it was demolished in 1971 and relocated in 1977. It was moved in 1977. In other words, when it appeared in 『Golden Kamuy』, it was located in Kanazawa City in terms of time.
As a fan, you may be able to get a better idea of the connection with Kanazawa when you see the special fall exhibition, 『Atui: Ainu Culture at Sea』.
