The “Golden Tea House,” which is said to have been built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1586 and presented to Emperor Shojincho, has been revived in a modern style and is now located in Kanazawa Hyakubangai in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Sustainable but sparkling golden tea house
「NAKED, INC.」, a creative company based in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, and Kanazawa University Elementary School have collaborated to recreate a “golden tea room” using gold-colored trash that would otherwise be thrown away in everyday life.
The word “sustainable” is used to describe environmentally friendly initiatives, and the “Golden Teahouse” is exactly the kind of glitz and glamour that would have delighted Hideyoshi, a man who liked to be extravagant, while still being sustainable.
Why is there a “Golden Tea House” in Kanazawa…
In 1994, he restored a movable, assembled 「Golden Tea House」 in Kyoto City, and in March of this year, the 「Golden Tea House」 was put on permanent display at the Nagoya Castle Museum in Saga Prefecture, attracting much attention.
This sustainable “Golden Teahouse” is different in that it was created for an exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, by about 100 sixth-grade students under the guidance of 「Naked」.
It will be on display at the exhibition 「NAKED meets Sen no Rikyu」 from August 6 to September 3, and then on display for a limited time from August 4 at Rinto Garden Square in Kanazawa Hyakubangai, a shopping mall located in Kanazawa Station.
