It has been 13 years since Maki Asakawa, a singer from Ishikawa Prefecture, passed away on January 17, 2010 at the age of 67. On the anniversary of her death, Hoshika Okumura of the Hokuriku Idol Club performed as the opening act at the 『Maki Asakawa 2023 Kitakamomeki LIVE ‘Songs Will Never Die’ in MOKKIRIYA』.
First collaboration with artist Momoko Ika
Momoko Ika, who released a CD album 『Good-bye – Embracing Maki Asakawa』 (December 2021) under the name Utamomo in respect of Maki Asakawa, and Seika Okumura, aka “Sei-chan” of the Hokuriku Idol Club, collaborated for the first time.
According to the Facebook page of the live house MOKUTOYA, 「Momoko’s songs and beautiful posture remind us of the path she has walked so far, and Seika reminds us of the future」.
Maki Asakawa and Kanazawa
In 1968, she was discovered by Shuji Terayama and Koji Teramoto and performed at the Underground Theater in Shinjuku, and in July 1969, she made her official debut with 『Yoru ga Aketara / Kamome』 produced by Koji Teramoto.
Maki Asakawa, who has such a career, was actually born in Mikawa-cho, Ishikawa-gun (now Hakusan-shi), Ishikawa Prefecture, and graduated from Kanazawa Ninomizu High School in Ishikawa Prefecture. It makes sense that she held an event at a live house in Kanazawa on the anniversary of her death.
Momoko Ika performed 『It’s Not the Spotlight』, a Japanese translation of Maki Asakawa’s cover of 『It’s Not the Spotlight』 when she was in her 30s, as an encore at 「Koji Teramoto Produce Momoko Ika’s One-Man Live Hug You!」 The song was performed by Maki Asakawa in her 30’s.
Listening to Maki Asakawa’s live version of the song, I feel more respect from the fact that Momoko Ika sings the song without being just a cover.
