On Thursday, June 30, the 「Himuro biraki」 will be held at the ice house by Lake Tamasen in the town of Yuwaku.
Outline of 「Himuro biraki」
Ice, which is now available when you open the freezer, was a precious commodity in the Edo period. In the Kaga domain, snow ice stored in ice huts in winter was cut out and presented to the Tokugawa Shogunate on the first day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, which was the first day of the 「Himuro no tsuitachi」.
A reenactment of this event is being held on June 30 (Thursday) at Yuwaku Onsen as 「Himuro biraki」.
At the 「Himuro biraki」, after performing Buddhist rites in the Himuro hut, ice is cut out and dedicated to Yakushiji Temple. In addition, 「Himuro Manju」, which was used as ice by common people in the Edo period, Kanazawa Yuwaku Cider, Yuwaku limited edition gelato, etc. will be sold (to prevent infection, food sales will be limited to take-out). Admission may be limited to ensure social distance.
