「Unakabachan」 is a fish paste product of Sugiyo Corporation, which was the first in the industry to produce crab cakes and chikuwa.
Made to look just like the real thing, and placed next to real eels, it is truly a work of art.
「Sugiyo Co.」, Ltd. is a long-established company that has been engaged in the fishing industry as a netmoto since the reign of the Kaga Clan, and has a long history.
Such a traditional, long-established company was inspired to create 「Unakabachan」 using cutting-edge technology because of a desire to revitalize the industry once again amid declining sales of fish paste products and to protect eel resources, which are continuing to decline.
The 「Unakabachan」 is a faithful reproduction of a real eel, with the stringiness of the surface and the black part of the skin. It was so realistic that one was tempted to ask, “Is this the real thing?
To reproduce the slippery texture of the skin, they use konjac jelly to recreate it.
「Unakabachan」 is filled with the efforts and ideas of such companies.
Even the reviews are like real eels in both texture and taste! Delicious! It has a good reputation.

「Unakabachan」, though, has a texture and taste as good as real eel kabayaki,
Suddenly they are appearing as vending machines in the streets of Kanazawa City.
The story goes that the product was not well known and spent eight years on the fringes of the industry.
The people concerned were impatiently saying, 「You can tell how well it’s done by just eating it」.
What a waste.
In order to make many people aware of the product, they decided to install vending machines in Owari-cho, near Kenrokuen Garden, in the center of Kanazawa City, as a trial project.
Vending machine sells 6 kinds of products including 「Unakabachan」.

The vending machine will sell six different products, including Unakabachan」 wappa rice and 「Aroma Box」 takikomi-gohan.
The vending machine itself is an austere brown color, inspired by the image of “eels”.
The color was chosen to match the chic streetscape of Kanazawa.
It will be interesting to see if the vending machine will become a new topic of conversation in Kanazawa.
