Let’s watch fireflies on Hakuchoro with lights down. Reading and commentary sessions will also be held 【Kanazawa Event】

The 「Hakuchoro Firefly Viewing Evening」 is now being held at Hakuchoro, Kanazawa Castle’s outer moat park , which is rich in nature despite being in the city center, to watch fireflies flying in the evening darkness.

The 「Hakuchoro Firefly Viewing Evening」 will be held for six days around the weekends of June 10, 11, and 12, and June 17, 18, and 19. Hours are from 20:00 to 21:30.

During the event, the only lighting along the Hakuchoro Parkway will be lanterns underfoot, highlighting the light emitted by genji botaru and heike botaru fireflies. Participation is free of charge, no reservations are required, and the event will be held even if it rains a little.

Firefly reading sessions that bring to mind scenes of fireflies in flight, as well as an interpretation session where you can learn about firefly ecology and more.

In addition, on June 12 (Sun.) and 19 (Sun.), 「firefly reading」 and 「firefly interpretation」 will be held at 『Hosho』 on the 2nd floor of 「Kanazawa Hakuchoro Hotel Sanraku」near Hakuchoro.

The reading session will be held from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. The 「Reading Hut Asanogawa Club」 will read 『Firefly Songs』 by Saisei Muroo, 『Hotaru no yukue 』 by Akisho Tokuda, 『Minotani』 by Kyoka Izumi, and other works that will bring to mind scenes of fireflies dancing in the air. The 「Commentary」 will be given by the 「Kanazawa Firefly Society」 from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m.

Participation is free of charge, but advance registration is required (to Kanazawa City Environmental Policy Division), and will be limited to the first 20 people on both the 12th and 19th. Participating before the firefly viewing will add to the flavor of the event.

Access

There are no parking lots near the venue, so please use public transportation. From Kanazawa Station, get off at the 「Kenrokuen-shita/Kanazawa Castle」 bus stop on the Hokuriku Railway Line bus or Nishinippon JR Bus and walk about 3 minutes.
