「Connie’s Eye」 is a gallery café that sells unique goods and stationery (see related article). Various exhibitions and sales are held for different periods of time, but some products are sold year-round. Among them, the sightseeing guide 「d design travel」 displayed in the center of the first floor is unique.
「d design travel」, a design tourism guidebook
「The D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT」, a store-style activity based on the theme of 「long-life design」, has created 「d design travel」, a tourist guide that picks up the 「individuality」 and 「character」 of each of the 47 prefectures from a design perspective.
Toyama Prefecture has been featured twice in the series, which began publication in 2009 and has featured 30 prefectures up to the most recent issue. In addition to art galleries, museums, gourmet food, and stores that offer local shopping, the book also includes information on key figures in the local design scene.
Another feature of 「d design travel」 is that each issue has a different price: 「d design travel Toyama」 is priced at 1,540 yen, 「d design travel Toyama 2」, which features Toyama for the second time, costs 3,190 yen, and 「d design travel Kyoto」 costs 1,540 yen.
The latest issue of 「d design travel Fukushima」 will be on sale soon at 「Connie’s Eye」. The price is 3,190 yen, including tax, and the cover is marked by a large red baby. The book is full of information on 「Fukushima」, including 「Hajimari no MUSEUM of Contemporary Art」, 「Kiyoshi Saito Museum of Art」, and 「Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art」 as facilities to learn about 「Fukushima」, 「Aoyagi」, 「Mitsudaya」, and 「Branch」 as restaurants, and 「Niida Honke」, 「Watashibune」, and 「Full House」 as places to go shopping that are uniquely Fukushima. In addition, the magazine does not shy away from mentioning the reconstruction of the area.
It is a little sad that there is no issue featuring Ishikawa Prefecture yet. Whether you were able to travel out of the prefecture during the Golden Week holidays or not, this highly readable guidebook will get you in the mood for a trip. It is also good for planning summer and silver week trips.
