The brainwave buying center 『BWTC』, which made a splash with its appearance in Tokyo in the summer of 2022, will begin its first tour in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture this year on June 17. Some of you may be thinking, “Is it safe to buy brain waves?” Some may wonder, 「Is it safe to buy brain waves?」 However, we received many favorable comments at last year’s Tokyo venue. By the way, at the Kanazawa venue this time, the purchase price is said to be 10 times higher only during the enhanced purchase period.

The Truth About Brainwave Purchases

Launched last June by the creative collective Konel, 「BWTC」 is a project that aims to purchase brain waves from citizens and use the data to make a fair profit.

In light of the current situation where 「a variety of invisible data is traded unconsciously」, they are seeking a new form of transaction to rethink the value of information.

Nowadays, when you use the Internet, smartphones, chat GPT, etc., your data is collected without your awareness.

Compared to this, it is somewhat understandable that they are proudly conducting transactions by clearly stating that they will 「buy brain waves」 and generate brain wave paintings with their own programs and sell them.

Brainwave Purchase Center Experiences

Last year, 「BWTC Trade Week」 was held at 「3331 Arts Chiyoda」, a cultural arts facility in Sotokanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, from July 30 (Sat) to August 7 (Sun).

At the time, visitors to the exhibition tweeted a variety of impressions of the event. Some people bought brain waves and 「returned their brain wave data to real gold in a vending machine」, while others bought brain waves for their family members and 「maybe the youngest? Some people said, My child’s brain waves, who may be the youngest, are also for sale…」.

One of the organizers had the rare experience of 「an acquaintance who came to the brainwave purchase exhibit and bought me a Coke from a vending machine that was part of the artwork in the exhibit with the 1,000 yen he earned from his brainwaves」.

At last year’s 「BWTC Trade Week」, the goal was 100 seconds = 1,000 yen and up to 1 million yen, and 「1,000 people = 1 million yen worth of brain wave purchases」 was achieved.

At this year’s Kanazawa event, June 17 and 18 will be the period of enhanced purchase, with 100 seconds = 1,000 yen, and the rest of the week will be the normal purchase period, with 100 seconds = 100 yen.

Konel, a group of creators, is active globally with offices in Tokyo, Kanazawa, Berlin, and Vietnam. So, BWTC’s first western Japan expansion will start from Kanazawa…?
