Works by Takato Yamamoto and others gathered in the exhibition 「Kyokaryoran: The Challenge of the Painters」 at Izumi Kyoka Memorial Museum in Shimo-Shinmachi 【Kanazawa Event】

The special exhibition 「Kyokaryoran: Challenges of Painters」 is being held at the Kyoka Izumi Memorial Museum in Shimoshinmachi until June 26 (Sun.). This special exhibition allows visitors to appreciate the world of Kyoka Izumi as expressed by contemporary painters.

Izumi Kyoka was a novelist born in Kanazawa who left behind many fantastic novels. Many painters, including Kiyokata Kaburaki, a Japanese painter from the Meiji period to the Showa period known for his paintings of beautiful women, illustrated Kyoka Izumi’s works.

At the current special exhibition 「Kyokaryoran: Challenges of Painters」 at the Kyoka Izumi Memorial Museum, which stands on the site of Kyoka Izumi’s birthplace, works by Manabu Nakagawa, Takato Yamamoto, Eizuko Kaneida, and Yoshiko Muto, who illustrated modern Kyoka books, are on display along with their messages. The exhibition dates have been changed since the flyer was first created, and the exhibition will be held from April 1 to June 26.

The main exhibits are Manabu Nakagawa’s 「Ezoshi: Ryutandan」, 「Picture Book: Kecho」, and 「Marumero ni mehana no tsuku hanashi」, Takato Yamamoto’s 「Yashagaike no Shirayukihime II」, 「Kusa-meikyu I」, 「Tensyu Monogatari III」, 「Yakusotori: Tsukikage ni akaku」; Etsuko Kanaida’s 「Picture Book Spring」, and Yoshiko Muto’s 「Ryutandan」, all original drawings and related materials. 60 pieces. Books that are works of art are also for sale.

To get there, take the 「Kanazawa Flat Bus (Konohana Route)」 from the No. 11 bus stop at the East Exit of JR Kanazawa Station, get off at 「Hikoso Ryokuchi」, and walk 5 minutes. By Hokutetsu Bus, take the 「Castle Town Kanazawa Loop Bus」 from the No. 7 bus stop at the East Exit of JR Kanazawa Station, turn right and get off at 「Hashiba-cho」 (in front of Kinjoro-Mae). 3 minutes on foot. From the 「Hirosaka/21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art」 bus stop, take the 「Kanazawa Castle Town Circulation Bus」 turning left and get off at 「Hashiba-cho」 (in front of Kinjoro). 3 minutes walk.

If you are driving, free parking for 4 cars is available in the joint parking lot with the Kanazawa Gramophone Museum (next to the museum), and the Higashiyama Tourist Parking Lot (fee-based, 5-minute walk).
