Kanazawa Horse Racing is currently accepting entries for the name of the racehorse that will debut before the opening of the 2023 season on March 12. In the past, a variety of horse names have been chosen (such as “Ichakina“), and we are looking forward to seeing what kind of origin will be considered this time.

Speaking of Kanazawa horse racing, 「Omataseshimashita」, named after Jungle Pocket’s Shinji Saito, who became the horse’s owner, made headlines last November when he transferred to Kanazawa horse racing from Monbetsu, Hokkaido, but finished his season in Kanazawa in December and transferred to Kasamatsu horse racing in Gifu Prefecture in January.
The horse’s name, “Omatase-chan” or OmataseShimashita, is a pun on “Director Toru Murakishi,” played by Takayuki Yamada in the drama 『The Naked Director』 by Jean-Paque Saito. I’m sorry I kept you waiting. The idea came from the line, 「We’ve kept you waiting too long」.

Kanazawa Horse Racing has been soliciting names for 2-year-old horses in past years, but did not do so in fiscal year 2022, so this will be the first time in two years. The name 「Tsurugi Yamabushi」 was chosen from among the entries received in fiscal 2021.
