February 12 was 「Retort Curry Day」, and one month later, on March 12, dance and vocal group IVVY held a live concert in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Champion Curry, the “original Kanazawa Curry,” collaborated with the group on their tour.
What is the origin of the original Kanazawa Curry?
According to Champion Curry’s official website, the founder, Yoshikazu Tanaka, was 16 years old and already had his heart set on a career in Western cuisine when he was introduced by Mr. Hayakawa, the owner of Gankodo, a Western-style restaurant in Kanazawa City, to train at Toyoken in Tokyo.
After completing his training, Mr. Tanaka returned to Hokuriku and worked in restaurants and hotels, serving as head chef. In 1951, after honing his skills, he opened his own restaurant, Western-style Tanaka in Takaoka-cho, Kanazawa City, and in 1965, he became a curry specialist under the name 「Tanaka Curry」. After that, 「Curry Champion」 was born with many twists and turns.
Incidentally, 「Retort Curry Day」 is said to have originated on February 12, 1968, when Japan’s first retort curry, 「Bon Curry」, went on sale.

March 12 was tasted as 「A Little Better Retort Curry Day」 by 「Champion Curry」 and 「Mouyan Curry」 retort, which was created in 1997 in Nishi-Shinjuku. That’s as good as it gets.
Why did IVVY and Champion Curry collaborate?
IVVY (current members: HIROTO, YU-TA, KENTO.i, TAIYU, MASAKI, TAICHI, KEY) was formed in September 2015 with five original members and made its major debut in 2018 on Victor Entertainment.
On March 12, 『IVVY LIVE TOUR -MONS7ER-』 Kanazawa AZ concert was held, and Champion Curry, the “original Kanazawa Curry”, offered retort curry to all attendees (Will end when all the curry is gone). (Once the curry is gone, the event will be closed).
Nagasaki on the 19th and Fukuoka on the 21st will follow, but I wonder if there will be tour cooperation in each location…. I am curious.
