What is amazing is the lavish architecture, gardens, and elaborately designed furnishings of the time.
Let’s take a quick peek at the ironclad sights that you must visit at least once before you die.
Kanazawa Tourist Attraction 「Seisonkaku」 Highlights 1: Tea House and Garden
The teahouse and garden of 「Seisonkaku」 combine natural and man-made beauty.
Natural stones are placed around a wide plastered earthen border, and a clear stream of water flows through the garden.
From the tea ceremony room, visitors can open the shoji screens to view the stonework of the 「Hikakutei」, a designated national scenic beauty spot, full of flowers, birds, and colors, as well as the moss-covered water pots of the Rokujizo.
The garden, designated as a national important cultural property, is beautiful any time of the year, with its stepping stones and steps. Visitors can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view of the garden, whether they look through the shoji screens or stand down in the garden and watch the wind and water flow.
Kanazawa Tourist Attraction 「Seisonkaku」 Highlights 2: Blue and red room lavishly decorated with innovative marine pigments
Of all the rooms in 「Seisonkaku」, this is the one you must not miss.
This is 「Gunjo no ma」, a vivid blue and red room that stands out from the rest.
The innovative contrast of the color, ultramarine blue, an imported pigment that was considered a luxury item at the time, is stunning.
The floor pillars are carved from cedar logs, and the wood grain is delicately designed.
The Gunsei-no-ma and the Shomi-no-ma, which follows it, were the most important places on the floor. Guests who were admitted to these rooms in those days must have been awestruck by the magnificent space.
Even if we visit today, the elegant space is still a sight to behold.
