How are these gorgeous wagasa umbrellas made? A demonstration by a craftsman will be held at Kanazawa Yuyuwaku Edomura.
Wagasa, a Japanese umbrella born from the hands of a craftsman
On Sunday, June 26, from 10:00 a.m., Hiromi Yamada and Tomio Tanaka, craftsmen of 「Wagasa and Mizuhiki Kobo Minto」 will demonstrate one of the three processes of making Japanese umbrella: 「Tsunagi」, 「Kagari」, and 「Hari」 at the former Hirao House in Kanazawa Yuwaku Edomura. Participation fee is only the entrance fee.
It is exciting to see up close how wagasa, which are also displayed in Kanazawa Yuyuwaku Edomura, are made.
There is also the 「Edo Life Experience」 where you can eat mochi!
On the same day, 「Edo Life Experience: Making Fire with Irori」, an experience of making fire with a fire-starting machine, will be held at the former Matsushita House. In addition to being able to eat rice cakes roasted on the iroli, visitors can bring in marshmallows and other easily flammable items (no oily items allowed). Mochi will be provided by the facility, and the participation fee is 300 yen in addition to the park entrance fee.
Reservations are required for the 10:00 and 13:30 sessions, each with a maximum of two groups of five people. Applications are required, and applications will be closed when the number of participants reaches the limit.
Access to Kanazawa Yuwaku Edomura
To get there, take the Hokuriku Railway bus bound for 「12 Yuwaku Line (Kanazawa Station – Yuwaku Onsen), Yuwaku Onsen」 from JR Kanazawa Station, get off at 「Yuwaku Onsen」 and walk 4 minutes. By car, take Prefectural Route 10 (Kanazawa-Yuwaku-Fukumitsu line) toward Fukumitsu.
