「Kanazawa’s Folk Toys」, a special exhibition of local toys that convey the traditional lifestyle of Kanazawa, is currently being held at the Kanazawa Museum of Life.
Outline of the exhibition 「Kanazawa’s Folk Toys」
In Kanazawa, the castle town, a variety of local toys were born, including 「Kaga Hachiman Okiagari」, which became the motif for Ishikawa’s local character 「Hyakuman-san」; 「Kaga dolls」 in the form of human figures, such as the adorable children’s lion dance; 「Tenjindo」 decorated from year-end to New Year’s in hopes for boys’ growth; and matoi, flags and dice used in the traditional Kanazawa game 「Hata Genpei」.
During the exhibition period through August 28 (Sun.), visitors can play with 「Hata Genpei」 and take photos at the 「Tenjindo」 photo spot to get a closer look at these local toys.
In addition, on June 26 (Sun), a gallery talk on the special exhibition 「Kanazawa’s Local Toys」 will be held by a curator, who will explain the history and origin of the exhibited items and other characteristic local toys (details). Come and enjoy learning about the history and climate of Kanazawa, which you may or may not know.
