The annual 「Asano River Carp Floating」 will be held on May 4 (Wed., national holiday).
Carp floating down the river, rather than carp streamers fluttering in the sky above, is a rare event in Japan. The carp floating event, which takes place on and around the Asano River from Umeno Bridge to Asano River Bridge, was started in 2019 by people from the local Zaimoku-cho School Boys League to delight children.
The sight of carp shimmering down the Asano River like a Yuzen Nagashi is very picturesque and attracts many people, both children and adults, every year. The event is held even in light rain, but the weekly weather forecast calls for clear skies and cloudy skies on the day of the event. The weekly weather forecast calls for clear skies and cloudy skies on the day of the festival, so you can expect to see a lot of carp swimming happily.
The riverbed near Umenobashi Bridge, where the carp floating event is held, is not far from Higashi Chaya-machi. How about viewing the event loved by Kanazawa citizens while touring Kanazawa’s traditional streets, machiya cafes, and select stores?
Since parking lots in downtown Kanazawa are crowded during Golden Week, it is recommended to take public transportation to the venue of the carp streaming event; take a city bus from JR 「Kanazawa Station」 and get off at 「Hashiba-cho」.
