The \u300e72nd Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival\u300f to be held from June 2 (Fri.) to 4 (Sun.), 2023, has been attracting attention with the announcement of the talents who will play the roles of Lord Maeda Toshiie and Omatsu no Kata in the \u300cHyakumangoku Procession\u300d followed by the children selected to play the roles of Princess Tama and Lord Toshitsune. Did you know that there are many other sponsored events worth seeing on June 3, when the \u300cHyakumangoku Procession\u300d will be held?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Princess Tamahime & Lord Toshitsune?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The \u300cHyakumangoku Procession\u300d, the main event of the \u300e72nd Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival\u300f, will be performed by kabuki actor Udanji Ichikawa as Lord Toshiie Maeda and actress Mahiru Konno as Omatsu no Mata, both from Osaka Prefecture, coincidentally.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 12, Ai Kaneda (5 years old), a senior at Nozomi Nursery School, who was chosen to play the role of Princess Tamahime, and Ryomei Sakashita (8 years old), a second grader at Kibikino Elementary School, who was chosen to play the role of \u300cLord Toshiitsune\u300d, were unveiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maeda Toshitsune was the bastard son (fourth son) of Maeda Toshiie, the third lord of the Kaga domain. Princess Tamahime was born as the second daughter of Tokugawa Hidetada, the second shogun of the Edo shogunate.
After the death of Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the domain, a rumor circulated that \u300cMaeda was going to avenge the Tokugawa Shogunate\u300d. To prove that he had no intention of defying the Tokugawa Shogunate, the second lord, Maeda Toshinaga, sent Omatsu no Mata to Edo as a hostage and promised that Princess Tama would become Toshitsune’s wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Princess Tamahime entered Kaga at the age of 3, married at 14, raised 3 sons and 5 daughters, and died at the age of 24 while maintaining good relations between the Maeda and Tokugawa families. She is still loved by Kanazawa citizens as a mirror of a good wife and wise mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After witnessing the \u300cHyakumangoku Procession\u300d in which \u300cPrincess Tamahime and Lord Toshitsune\u300d also appear, why not enjoy \u300ePlaza Festival 2023\u300f?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kanazawa Welfare Equipment Information Plaza’s annual event \u300ePlaza Festival\u300f had to be canceled due to the Corona disaster, and was held for the first time in three years in 2022, but there were no plans like the previous \u300cZombie House of Fear\u300d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u300ePlaza Festival 2023\u300f will bring back the haunted house with a bang. The admission fee for the haunted house is only 100 yen, and the \u300cHell’s Underground Room Where Specters Wander\u300d is only 100 yen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While children and mothers play at the fair corner, Japanese sweets making corner, and portrait corner, fathers can take a break at the Kanazawa local sake tasting corner. In addition, you can try out a wheelchair (for children) at the Kanazawa Wheelchair Information Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
